Make Your Own Air Freshener Gels with Staci McLaughlin

While Esther prefers the smell of fresh flowers and the great outdoors, sometimes the weather isn’t pleasant enough to open the windows. That’s when she relies on homemade air freshener gels.

TO MAKE YOUR OWN, YOU’LL NEED:

2 cups of water
2 tablespoons of salt
15 drops of essential oil
4 small packets of unflavored gelatin
3 or 4 small glass jars

Mix the water, salt, and essential oil in a small saucepan. Bring the ingredients to a boil over medium heat and add the gelatin packets. Stir until the gelatin powder has dissolved. Remove the mixture from the heat, pour an equal amount into each of the jars, and let it cool completely to set. For an extra-cute look, you can toss in little leaves or peels that match the scent, such as lemon peels for a lemon scented gel, or mint leaves for a peppermint gel.
