Nightwing #1

In a world divided by prejudice and hatred, only love can bridge the chasm.

Tensions are rising in the Gladium Province. The boundary between humans and Morgons has begun to blur. While the human aristocracy strives to maintain distance between their daughters and the dragon-hybrid race, fate has other plans.

As the daughter of the corporate king, Jessen Cade is duty-bound to honor her arranged marriage to a man she detests. Feeling trapped by family duty and a loveless future, she longs for more, straying to the Morgon side of the city.

Lucius Nightwing is the eldest son of the powerful Morgon clan, and the greatest enemy of Jessen’s father. When a bar-room brawl thrusts Jessen into his arms, his dragon roars to the surface, craving to sate his carnal hunger in the brown-eyed beauty. The beast in Lucius recognizes her as his own, even if the man refuses to admit the truth.

About Juliette Cross:

Juliette Cross calls lush, moss-laden Louisiana home, where the landscape curls into her imagination, creating mystical settings for her stories. She has a B.A. in creative writing from Louisiana State University, a M.Ed. in gifted education, and was privileged to study under the award-winning author Ernest J. Gaines in grad school. Her love of mythology, legends, and art serve as constant inspiration for her works. From the moment she read Jane Eyre as a teenager, she fell in love with Gothic romance—brooding characters, mysterious settings, persevering heroines, and dark, sexy heroes. A TANTALIZING TWIST FAIRYTALE (Saturday, October 18, 2014)
Reviewer: Patty McKenna Van Hulle

This romance starts with a compelling legend of a Dragon King flying away from his mountain to the lands of humans. Princess Morga is having her bathing rite before for marriage, so wet & nekkid the King instantly WANTED her, landed, changed into his human form, killed her guards & handmaiden (handmaidens are always such easy prey) & kissed her. Now like all dragonkind, they have this Soulfire, which is a dragon elixir that bonds their ONE to them forever! So the King stole his princess, return to his kind & when Morga gives birth to their so-called abomination & half breed son, Larkos, bigots being bigots, they are all cast out of Dragon land. With bigotry comes that first strong person who fights back, sometime to change others or to just destroy! Larkos chose destruction of the dragons, his father & loving mom, because unknown to him, she is BONDED to his dad! Forward 2,000 years & it's humans against the everlasting half breed dragon shifter. Now this tale is about "forewarned that all dragons are evil" Princess Jessen, the eldest son of the new Dragon King & that nasty SOULFIRE kiss that will not only turn their bodies into a passion bonfire, but rips their worlds apart! Will it make their world join & learn a better way? Can the males of both species pull back on their desire to kill? Will the smarter females of both species WHIP their mates head around to change? How will these 2 crazy kids fight to begin their world together?

This is my first Ms. Cross & she has a heck of a imagination & not only created 2 completely different world, but tied it up with new amazing legend! I personal think Ms. Cross was raised as my mom raised me, at our many AFB libraries! This tale had a Beauty & the Beast flavor, but she twisted this fairytale into a sexy compelling paranormal extraordinaire! I am a "gobble them up" kind of reader & I try any genre at these once, but I do have a FATAL FLAW of my own & it's first person writing! When I read, I completely SUBMERGE myself & (I)s & (ME)s just throw me out of my book COSMO. One of my favorite authors stated that her characters tell her how to write them & she doesn't argue with them. Since I am the one with FLAW, I feel I have NO right to score an author poorly because of first person writing. Ms. Cross can spin a tantalizing tale with tough issues like bigotry & tackle the good, the bad & the ugly of it! I highly recommend this twisted fairytale to all my romance peeps who enjoy first person writing style because she new, fresh, can write steaminess & has a imagination on steroids!

NetGalley ARC given for my honest review.
