“My name is Tess Little. But everyone calls me Red.”

Once upon a time, a spell went awry, stranding Make Believe characters in the ordinary world. Since then, Tess “Red” Little—a/k/a Little Red Riding Hood—has worked as an Enforcer for the Chicago branch of the Fairytale Management Authority. But, consider yourself warned—she’s not just some waif with a basket of goodies. All grown up and with nothing to lose, a gun and combat boots is more her style. And Red’s new assignment threatens to be short on happily ever afters…

Someone is murdering transplanted Tales in gruesome fashion. The list of fictional characters capable of such grisly acts is short and includes more than one of Red’s old flames. And if that wasn’t bad enough, there’s another complication, in the form of sexy, enigmatic Nate Grimm, the FMA’s lead detective and part-time Reaper. Used to following her own rules and living life on the edge, Red has managed to avoid taking on a partner until now. But Nate’s dark side makes him perfect for a case like this. That is, if she can trust him. Because if there’s one thing Red knows for sure, it’s that believing in the wrong person can have big, bad consequences…

About Kate SeRine:

National Reader’s Choice Award Winner

Kate SeRine (pronounced “serene”) faithfully watched weekend monster movie marathons while growing up, each week hoping that maybe this time the creature du jour would get the girl. But every week she was disappointed. So when she began writing her own stories, Kate vowed that her characters would always have a happily ever after. And, thus, her love for paranormal romance was born.

Kate lives in a smallish, quintessentially Midwestern town with her husband and two sons, who share her love of storytelling. She never tires of creating new worlds to share and is even now working on her next project.

Author Q&A
Telling Tales

Around two hundred years ago a magical duel went awry, transplanting hundreds of fairytale characters from Make Believe into the human world of the Here and Now. And in 2012, I introduced the first of these “Tales” to readers with RED, sharing how Tess “Red” Little and Nate Grimm found their happily ever after while solving murders, dispensing justice, and keeping more troublesome Tales from exposing their secret lives among us Ordinaries.

And now with the release of the fourth book in the series, EVER AFTER, I’m thrilled to finally tell the story of Gideon Montrose, the mysterious and sexy fairytale bodyguard who has been wooing fans with his loyalty, honor, and gallantry since he stepped onto the page in my second Transplanted Tales novel, THE BETTER TO SEE YOU.

Surprisingly, I’d originally planned for Gideon to be just a throwaway character. But I fell in love with him after only a couple of sentences, and so gave him a bigger role in the second book. The reader response was so overwhelmingly positive, that I brought him back in the third novel, ALONG CAME A SPIDER. And when it came time to choose the protagonist for the fourth book in the series, it was a no-brainer! Gideon had experienced a lot of tragedy and heartbreak in his life and it was time to give him the happily ever after he so deserved.

Enter Arabella Locksley, a notorious thief that Gideon is ordered to apprehend only to discover she’s none other than the feisty, unpredictable woman he knew back in Make Believe as Robin Hood. Now, torn between his happiness at finding his former love alive and his anger over the lies that tore them apart, Gideon’s loyalties are put to the test. But it soon becomes apparent he’s just as likely as ever to have his heart stolen by the beautiful thief.

I think readers who have fallen for Gideon are going to love Luke Rogan, the hero of DECEIVED, the first novel in my new DARK ALLIANCE romantic suspense series, releasing from Kensington in summer 2016.

Luke’s former career in the Special Forces makes him a valuable asset to Temple Knight & Associates, a multi-billion dollar private equity firm operating as a front for the Knights Templar—modern-day warriors who’ve been secretly recruiting over the centuries to rebuild their Order as it once was before corruption and greed diverted them from their noble calling to protect the innocent. Now they work outside the law to thwart those who would bring the world to its knees.

In DECEIVED, Luke’s mission is simple: secure Sarah Scoffield and her young son Eli and bring them back to headquarters. Problem is, Sarah and her son seem to hold the key to the Templars’ undoing. And someone else has made it clear they’ll stop at nothing to capture them. Determined to deliver Sarah and Eli before the Templars’ enemies can get their hands on them, Luke’s made a vow to keep his distance and not get too close. But Sarah’s gentle love soon begins to thaw Luke’s cold heart and awakens in him passions he’d thought dead and buried long ago…

I’m looking forward to sharing Luke and Sarah’s story and introducing readers to the exciting world of the DARK ALLIANCE!

Interesting twist on a fairy tale character (Thursday, August 9, 2012)
Reviewer: Cocktails and Books

Red, as in Little Red Riding hood, has been an enforcer of the law for years. Hunting down tales who get a little out of hand is just one of the ways Red spends her day. That is until Death comes knocking with a case that will either make or break red. Forced to take on a partner Red finds herself in the all too familiar situation of fight or flight. Now she will have to face her past and secrets that have been kept from her for decades; no longer able to run she will have to find the courage to face the big bad wolf.

Detective Grimm is all too comfortable with death, probably because it’s what he does for a living. He has spent generations bringing the dead home as one of many Grimm Reapers, and now after decades of watching from a far he finally gets the chance to do what he has been aching to do for decades. Having her in his arms is all he could dream of, and now when his dream is standing right in front of him, he must find a way to tell her the truth without losing her forever.

I believe it is the differences between these two characters that make them. Red with her stubbornness and short fuse mixed with Death and his unbelievable patience makes for (in my opinion) the perfect pair. She struggles most of the way, frustrated because she can’t seem to figure Grimm out, but also intrigued and dying to know more….no pun intended. Then you have Grimm, who has waited patiently for so long to tell her how he feels, to be close to her, and tell all the secrets he has been keeping from her.

I really enjoyed the love story behind this and felt as if I could relate one hundred percent; but the story line itself really takes the cake. I do believe had the author used regular characters it might not have been as interesting; but it’s the fact that you get storybook characters working real time jobs that makes for a very interesting murder investigation and an even more interesting love story.
