Senior Editor position
Job Summary

Kensington Publishing Corp. is seeking a Senior Editor or and Executive Editor to acquire commercial fiction with a focus on romance and bookclub fiction. The ideal candidate should be a self-starter with excellent communication skills and a strong awareness of the current marketplace as well as emerging trends. This is an opportunity to develop a personal editorial brand on a strong list with a track record of success in a collaborative environment at an independent publisher.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, evaluate, and develop submissions, projects, manuscripts, and proposals with broad market potential.
  • Work closely with authors to develop and edit their work for publication.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams throughout the publishing process from acquisition to publication including sales, marketing, publicity, art design, copy, etc.
  • Foster a strong commitment to authors and author relationships.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with literary agents.
  • Monitor trend and sales data.
  • Identify categories to explore for growth potential, with an awareness of current trends, especially on social media.
  • Present titles at internal and external meetings.

 

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of publishing or related experience with a proven track record of acquisition in the categories of romance and commercial contemporary fiction
  • A commitment to publishing books from a diverse range of voices and perspectives
  • Strong editorial and written communication skills
  • Broad list of agent contacts, with specific emphasis on those who represent commercial fiction and romance
  • Strong negotiation skills along with knowledge of standard publishing contracts and P&Ls
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and take initiative.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

This is a Hybrid Position based in NYC or Fully Remote depending on the candidate.

 

About the Company

The salary range for this position is $90,000-$110,000. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.

In addition to cash compensation, the company provides a competitive benefits package, including health insurance, dental, vision, 401k, transportation, and other benefits.
