From country girl to actress of the stage, one woman dares to live her dreams—but is she brave enough to open her heart…?

Monica Danes always wanted more than the village of Biddlestone had to offer. After a failed courtship to a man of her parents’ choosing, she fled for the city of Bath and never looked back. Today, Monica is the undisputed queen of the theater—a wealthy, independent woman. But when she is called home in the wake of tragedy, Monica returns—intending to leave again as soon as possible.

Thomas Ashby has been a groom at the Danes estate since he was a boy—and has been enamored with Monica for almost as long. He knows he isn’t a suitable match for his master’s daughter, despite the special bond he and Monica have always shared—and their undeniable attraction. But now that she’s returned, Thomas has one last chance to prove himself worthy—and to show Monica a life, and a love, she won’t want to give up...

What was your favorite subject in school and why?

English! And for obvious reasons. I've always loved reading and devoured books in and out of school. I took absolute pleasure in writing book reports, essays and stories. I was a straight A student in this subject and proud of it! Next favorite was history…

Tell us about a romantic moment in your life.

My family and I were rescued by a helicopter during the 2010 French floods, and during the manic hysteria of the holiday park evacuation, I lost my engagement ring, which my husband gave me in 1993. I was devastated. We lost our clothes, passports, belongings and everything else, but I could not stop thinking about my ring being somewhere in the filthy, mud-red water. It was horrible.

Then, during the following Christmas dinner (2010), my husband stood up for the toast in front of my parents, brother and our kids, and said what a hard and traumatic year it had been for us…and then produced a brand-new diamond solitaire engagement ring. Suffice to say, I burst into tears and hardly touched the beautiful dinner he'd prepared, LOL! It was a moment I'll never forget.

What is your favorite genre to read?

Romantic suspense—but I read anything and everything except paranormal and sci-fi. I just can't stretch my imagination far enough to give such books a chance. I usually have at least three books I am reading at any one time. The mix is usually romantic suspense, historical and mystery.

Tell us about a new author you've just discovered.

I just discovered Julie Hyzy's White House series and am loving it! I just can't stop turning the pages and bought the entire backlist in one purchase. Her characterization is fabulous, the characters just leap off the page.

Any words of advice for debut authors?

Write! So many people tell me they'd love to write and see their work published, but have no idea how to start. The only way to succeed in this business is to get the words down, find a great critique partner and then submit it to a reputable publisher. No one is going to do this for you and the only way to learn is by your own mistakes. Simple!
