In a dazzling new novel in the Wherlocke family saga, New York Times bestselling author Hannah Howell creates an unforgettable story of intrigue, jeopardy, and desire. . .

Stealing a stranger's carriage is the second most reckless thing Lady Catrin Gryffin de Warrene has ever done. The first is succumbing to her powerful attraction to the carriage's owner. Catrin has heard the rumors about Sir Orion Wherlocke's family and their otherworldly gifts. He's the one person who can keep her son and his inheritance safe from her late husband's ruthless brother. As for how to protect herself. . .it may be too late for that.

Orion is facing the worst danger a man of his ilk can find: a woman he can't walk away from. Catrin is an intoxicating blend of innocence and sensuality, and for the first time, seduction is far more than a game. But her beauty and fortune have made her a target--one that will dare him to risk everything he's known--in pursuit of everything he's ever longed for. . .

A poked Mama Bear, a mystical hero & 2 "hit you right in the heart" boys go on a paranormal rollercoaster ride!

Lady Catryn Gryffin de Warrene is a widow from a loveless marriage, but was blessed with a son, Alwyn. Cat's mom told her she was odd as a child because she could sense danger & her mom said it was a dirty secret that no 1 could be told. Now her son chats with dead people which freaks people out, so she has taught him to hide his secret, too. Since Awlyn's sperm donor death, his brother, Morris, has been fighting her Father's guardianship of her son in court & lost more than once. But as she runs home, with the devil at her heels, to find her father bleeding & bruised as he tells her that Morris kidnapped her son. People will never learn that you DON'T PISSED OFF A MOTHER BEAR!

Sir Orion Wherlocke is from a mystical family tree & along with the Vaughn family, each member has a special sense or power like, sensing people's emotions, chatting with dead folks, seeing the future & visions that could curl your toes or drop you dead where you stand! Then there is Orion who is always 1 step ahead of his prey, which comes in handy when he works for his King & country. He has just discovered another illegitimate child of his, Giles, who was taken in by his Cousin Penelope, after he was found on the London's streets. He decides to spend some time bonding with Giles & his other 2 illegitimate sons! Yes, the Wherlocke & Vaughn's have a lot of kids popping out!

As Cat is in hot pursuit of Morris's gaudy carriage, her horse goes lame, so she does what any other Mama Bear would do, commanders the nearest & faster transportation she can find. That is how Giles is accidentally kidnapped by a pistol welding red hair, as she "borrows" Orion's awaiting carriage. Orion starts to ask if people saw his carriage & he is tickled that everyone saw a read haired lady driving a carriage with a happy, smiling & waving boy inside the carriage, as it was following a ridiculous carriage with an unhappy & frowning boy inside. Cat has been driving hard, so she decides to rest the horses & screams as a boy jumps from the carriage & says, "HI!" Orion soon chases them down as his son & this female are having a panic with his food, but he listens to her kidnap story, totally believes her, has a all important chat from his son (who senses people's emotions) & decide to help her.

This begins a carriage hopping trek across England's unpaved, nasty & uncomfortable roads as they chase the crazy Morris & her son. There is some hilariousness aplenty, sensual kisses, strange otherworldly powers & senses, a found but not losed family tree, a night of tangle sheets, true acceptance, many loving & open hearts, boys finally being giggling & dirty boys, a crazy Wherlocke/Vaughn family reunion, a psycho of an Uncle, a pack of hired stupidity, more pistol welding & a wild romance wrapped in a mystical & sparkly bow! Will Cat get her son & her otherworldly man? Can Orion love her & NOT leave her? Who is the papa who is chatting with Alwyn on the other side? Will Orion's unpredictable family make or break his wooing?

This is the 1st book of the Wherlocke series & it was a full of fast paced action, never dull a minute & had a hilarious cast of kooky & quirky characters. Cat was a mom on the war path to find her son & hoping that she will make Morris pay for it with his blood. along the way was just a cherry on top for her! Orion was kinda of a mysterious hero at the begin, but I really enjoyed his many inner thoughts conversations he had in his head. They say that you are your own worse enemy & Orion took that saying & ran with it. Giles & Alwyn would such big characters in this tale & come on who couldn't love a boy who chats with dead folks & not respect Giles' determination to right wrongs! These 2 boys were a match set because what the other needed, the other provided! In any romance, there must be toe curling kisses, sensual caresses & just plain old down & dirty & Ms. Howell did disappoint me with Orion helping Cat unleash her inner KITTY CAT! Sorry I couldn't resist that dazzling pun! Ms. Howell lost me a lot in this tale & I always felt a step behind, but I think if I had read more books in this Wherlocke series maybe I would have enjoyed it more. This romance is all about love & family, which I loved, but I felt like I read Part B, but never got Part A, then Part D & so on. I will still read Ms. Howell's books because she can spin & weave a marvelous tale, but this romance did hook me at all & it's gets my score of 2 fingers up & 6 toes.

NetGalley ARC given for my honest review.
