The small town of Frog Ledge, Connecticut, has wholeheartedly embraced Kristan "Stan" Connor's new business--preparing quality organic treats for dogs and cats. On a healthy diet, the animals may live longer. . .but one local farmer won't be so lucky.

As Halloween approaches, Stan is asked to cater a doggie costume party hosted by the Happy Cow Dairy Farm. Part of a local co-op, Happy Cow specializes in organic dairy products, and farmers Hal and Emmalee Hoffman have started opening up the farm for parties, offering a "haunted" corn maze as an added attraction.

When Hal's lifeless body is found in the maze, the police at first suspect his wife, but Stan soon learns the dairy farmer had plenty of enemies--from bitter family members to shady business associates. If Stan can't extract a kernel of truth from the labyrinth of lies, she may be the next one to buy the farm. . .

Includes Gourmet Pet Food Recipes!

“A Boo-licious Tail of Murder, Canines, Felines and Those Who Love Them” (Wednesday, May 21, 2014)
Reviewer: Nancy Narma

It’s almost Halloween, and Kristan (“Stan”) Connor is happily settled in her green Victorian home in Frog Ledge, Ct. Her life has changed so much since leaving her high-pressure job and the city and starting a new business creating delicious, nutritious and organic treats and meals for cats and dogs. Nutty, her Maine Coon Cat, and caring canines, Henry and Scruffy all put their paw/seal of approval on Stan’s concoctions. Along with other treat orders, Stan agrees to do a dog costume party for a client, which will be held on the property of the nearby “Happy Cow Farm, owned and operated by the Hoffman Family as part of a Dairy Cooperative. The Hoffmans have created a Halloween Haven, complete with a corn maze as an added attraction for the residents of Frog Ledge, as well as helping to raise some much needed funds. Stan barely has the Dog Costume Party underway, and the corn maze has its spooky souls all in place, when something a lot scarier is discovered within its depths—Hal Hoffman’s lifeless body! Fingers point in many directions, but, who would benefit from Hal’s demise? Or did he have cruel enemies no one knew about, including his overworked and underappreciated wife, Emmalee, who wanted him out of the way permanently?
As per the norm, Stan sets her mixing bowls and dog biscuit cutters aside and dons her sleuthing cap. Will her sleuthing place her in mortal danger, or in the arms of hunky bar owner Jake McGee? Sometimes the best intentions result in just the opposite of effects. I’m so glad Ms. Mugavero responded to my request and has graciously included a dog bone cake and pumpkin cookie recipes for those four-legged furry family members in our lives. If you enjoyed Stan’s previous escapades in Ms. Mugavero’s first book, “Kneading to Die”, you’ll be more than pleased with this current work and impatiently anticipating the next. In the meantime, why not pack up some yummy treats and visit your local animal shelter for some much-needed one on one time with some forlorn, furry residents? We all know Nutty, Henry, Scruffy and Duncan would approve! Cozy Lovers, make room on your shelf for this one!
