Explore LA With Ari and Nina’s Favorite Restaurants

by Amy Spalding

Do you ever read a book and wonder if the places mentioned really exist? Here are some of the places mentioned in For Her Consideration that you can add to your must-visit list if you’re in the Los Angeles area!

Thirsty Crow – https://www.thirstycrowbar.com/

Thirsty Crow is a cozy bar in Silver Lake, where even the happy hour beverages are made with handcrafted care. I loved putting Nina and Ari’s first one-on-one hangout in a comfortable neighborhood spot—really throwing off Nina’s expectations for what hanging out with a rising star will be like!

Bestia – https://bestiala.com/

For the special night that Ari plans for Nina, I wanted a DTLA restaurant with a tough reservation list and the kind of menu that made your friends jealous when they heard about your meal the next day. I surveyed a bunch of my friends, and every single person said that Bestia was the correct spot for this meal that brings the two even closer together.

Hippo – https://www.hipporestaurant.com/

Hippo is one of my very favorite restaurants in LA! I love it for special occasions as well as easy nights out with friends, and that special-but-comfortable vibe was exactly what I wanted for this particular night out for Ari and Nina.

Brite Spot – https://www.britespotdiner.com/

Brunch is an all-but sacred weekly ritual for Nina’s group of friends, and they trade between casual places and a little more upscale on the regular. I wanted something at the more casual end of the scale for the occasion they’re joined by Ari, and the Brite Spot, where I have eaten fried chicken on a biscuit in the LA sunshine, fit the bill perfectly.

The Mermaid Bar – https://themermaidla.com/

When I wanted to throw Nina slightly out of her comfort zone—but still in a super queer-friendly space—I thought right away of The Mermaid. It’s at once both very cool but also extremely chill, and I love how many types and ages of people can pile into the space for delicious cocktails and tasty small bites.

And an honorable mention…

RIP: Diablo Tacos – https://www.instagram.com/diablotacola/?hl=en

I’m brokenhearted that this important spot in Nina and Ari’s relationship moments has closed—especially because this was a regular spot for me. I love a restaurant where you can order tacos and drinks at the counter and then settle into a booth with a friend or five for nonstop snacks and conversation. When I thought of restaurants where it would be easy to get to know someone, Diablo was an automatic pick for me. I miss them lots!

A Buzzfeed LGBTQ Romance You’ve Got to Read

Since a crushing breakup three years ago, Nina Rice has written romance, friends, her dreams of scriptwriting for TV, and even LA proper out of her life. Instead, she’s safely out in the suburbs in her aunt’s condo working her talent agency job from home, managing celebrity email accounts, and certain that’s plenty of writing—and plot—for her life. But a surprise meeting called by Ari Fox, a young actress on everyone’s radar, stirs up all kinds of feelings Nina thought she’d deleted for good . . .

Ari is sexy, out and proud, and a serious control freak, according to Nina’s boss. She has her own ideas about how Nina should handle her emails—and about getting to know her ghostwriter. When she tells Nina she should be writing again, Nina suddenly finds it less scary to revisit her abandoned life than seriously consider that Ari is flirting with her. Between reconnecting with her old crew and working on a new script, a relationship with a movie star seems like something she’ll definitely mess up—but what could be more worth the risk?

Amy Spalding’s For Her Consideration is full of heat and heart as Nina learns that her story just might include the kind of love that lasts.
