In 2012, photographer and Hollywood executive Adrien Finkel turned her love of insightful quotes into a quest for hope and meaning. Armed with nothing but a camera and a black ink marker, she began asking friends, family, and co-workers to reveal what words moved and shaped them. The response she received was unexpected—timeless quotes were shared, personal confessions and advice flooded in, and total strangers wanted to get involved. My Naked Truth Project,
a photoblog celebrating self-expression and emotional healing, soon became a safe space for people to bare all—mind, body, and soul. The experience transformed Finkel’s outlook on life. Now, in her debut book, she continues to ask the world: What’s your truth?
Intimate and empowering, My Naked Truth is a candid photo journey that encourages us to trust more deeply, open our hearts, and expose what matters most. All of us are searching for answers about what our purpose is and why we’re here. All of us have secrets to reveal. But when we share our hopes and fears with each other, we realize that none of us are ever really alone.
MY NAKED TRUTH
For as long as I can remember, I have had a magnificent crush on words and the way they can transform a person. It didn’t take long to discover that writing was not my strong suit, so I committed myself to collecting all phrases that uncovered a feeling I couldn’t find the words for myself. It is this stockpile of brilliant writing that has dragged me out of heartbreak, hurled me into uncharted waters, and grounded me when all seemed pointless. But at a difficult point in my life, I found my own word collection failing me. So I announced on social media that I was in search of quotes and sayings that have lifted others. Comments popped up within seconds. Within weeks, friends and family had showed up at my doorstep, ready to share their words. I decided to write each contributor’s words gloriously across their chests, backs, and arms. As I posted their photos on Facebook, others became inspired. New people arrived at my door. Personal stories were exchanged. Connections were made. Naked truths were told. This project was born.
You are about to be filled to the brim with words of wisdom and personal confessions and advice from over two hundred dear friends, dearer strangers, and fragile, stunning humans just like you. May this hodgepodge of enlightenment be a place of comfort and clarity for you, as it has been for me.
